Description
SpaceX Crew Demo-1 splashdown, March 2019. SpaceX Demonstration Mission 1 (SpX-DM1) launched on 2 March 2019. This was the first orbital test of the Dragon 2 spacecraft, intended to take crew and cargo to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch took place as part of NASA's commercial crew program (Commercial Crew Development). The Crew Dragon 2 spacecraft made 18 orbits of the Earth and then successfully docked to the ISS on 3 March 2019. It was not crewed, instead carrying a test dummy. The spacecraft undocked, re-entered the Earth's atmosphere, and splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean at 08:45 local time on 8 March 2019, guided by four parachutes.
