Artist's Description
Soviet missile launch site. Gambit satellite image of Launch Site 3 at the Plesetsk intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) complex in the USSR. Gambit was a series of photoreconnaissance satellites launched between 1963 and 1967 to collect intelligence on the USSR and their allies. Capsules containing film were ejected from the satellite and sent back to earth for collection. Image obtained on the 9th June 1967.
