Artwork showing the planets in the solar system. At top centre the Sun is found with Mercury, the closest planet to the Sun, silhouetted onto the solar disc. The other planets, listed according to their distance from the Sun are: Venus (grey), the Earth (blue, centre right), Mars (red), Jupiter (large at bottom left), Saturn (bottom, with rings), Uranus (top left), above Uranus Neptune and finally in the top left corner the small disc of Pluto. The mean distance of Pluto from the Sun is about 5900 million kilometres. Planetary rings, once believed to be a feature only of Saturn, characterise also Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune.
