Description
Skeletal muscle fibres. Light micrograph of a section through skeletal muscle. The muscle fibres are seen end-on. Skeletal muscle is made up of many individual fibres running parallel to each other. It is under the direct conscious control of the brain, and is responsible for all voluntary movement. The large spaces between the fibres, and the irregular shapes of the cross-sections, are due to the method of preparation of the sample. The nuclei of the muscle cells can be seen as purple dots around the bodies of the cells. Magnification unknown.
