Description
Seven Mile Bridge demolition, Marathon, Florida, USA. Smoke and flames rising as a section of the old Seven Mile Bridge is demolished. The old Seven Mile Bridge, also known as the Overseas Highway, was built between 1908 and 1912 by Henry Flagler. It is a draw bridge that crosses a channel between the Gulf of Mexico and the Florida Strait. It was originally called the Overseas Railroad. The old bridge was damaged by Labor Day Hurricane in 1935 and rebuilt as a vehicle highway bridge. The new fixed box girder bridge is behind it. Photographed in 1993.
