Artist's Description
Secondary lung cancer. Sectioned gross clinical specimen of secondary malignant (cancerous) tumours of the lung. This cancer originated elsewhere in the body before it spread (metastasised) to the lungs through the bloodstream or lymphatic system. Symptoms associated with this cancer include a cough, shortness of breath and chest pain. Secondary cancers such as this are much harder to treat than primary cancers, and require systemic (whole body) treatment using anti-cancer drugs (chemotherapy) and radiotherapy to treat undetected secondary cancers in other areas of the body.
