Description
Roadside safety mirror on a coastal road. Mirrors like these are used to enable car drivers to see round sharp bends (blind bends) in a road, especially on narrow coastal roads next to a cliff edge. The narrowness of the road also means that large lorries and vehicles need room to turn sharp corners. A run-off area at the side of the road is seen in the mirror. The mirror is convex (curving outwards), which means that the objects seen in the mirror are smaller than they really are. This means that objects that appear distance are closer than they seem.
