Artist's Description

Space shuttle Discovery (mission 51-A, the 14th shuttle mission) following the retrieval of Westar VI, a stranded communication satellite (below). Astronaut Dale A. Gardner (left) is tethered to the side of the shuttle while Joseph P. Allen stands on the mobile foot restraint at the end of the remote manipulating arm. They are holding a For Sale" sign, a humorous reference to the status of the recaptured satellite. The mission lasted eight days (8th-16th November 1984). A second stranded communications satellite, Palapa B-2, was also successfully retrieved, & two new satellites were deployed. Karl Esch 10x8 colour print S19-39-063."
