Artist's Description

Renault car ignition. Historical illustration of the ignition mechanism used for car engines produced by the French company Renault, founded in 1899. An ignition system provides the starting sparks for certain internal combustion engines such as petrol engines used in cars. Artwork from 'Moteurs' (1911) by French civil engineer Max de Nansouty (1854-1913), part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
