Propofol molecule. Computer model showing the structure of a molecule of the sedative drug, propofol. Atoms are colour-coded (carbon dark grey, hydrogen light grey, and oxygen red). Propofol is a short-acting, intravenously administered hypnotic agent. It is used in the induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia, sedation for mechanically ventilated adults, and procedural sedation. It is also used in veterinary medicine.
