Polyspherical lens description. Diagram and Latin description of the polyspherical lens on a page from the 1702 edition of Oculus Artificialis. This book on optics and optical instruments and devices was published by the German monk and author Johann Zahn (1641-1707). It is thought that this lens design by Zahn was the first design of a trial lens, a type of lens used to test eyesight.
