Description
Ploughing with tracked tractor. Farmers using a tractor with caterpillar tracks to plough a field. Several types of continuous track vehicles were invented in the 19th century, but the first successful commercial models appeared in the early 1900s. First using steam and then petrol engines, they were used in farming and in logging, and by the time of World War I had been adapted for use in tanks and to haul artillery. Photographed in 1912, in Oxnard, California, USA.
