Artist's Description
Cyclamen flower. Macrophotograph of the pink flower of a Cyclamen sp. (family: Primulaceae). A second unopened flower bud is seen. Cyclamen are tuberous plants that grow wild in Mediterranean countries and islands. The flower is shuttlecock- shaped with sharply reflexed petals. It is borne on a long stalk, while the leaf foliage occurs low to the ground and is sometimes strikingly marked. There are many cultivated varieties with petal colours ranging from pink, mauve, scarlet, white and lilac. Flowering occurs in late summer.
