Patagonian geology. Diagram showing a section through the rock layers forming the plains of Patagonia. This section was observed on the banks of the Santa Cruz River in Argentina. These observations were made by the British naturalist Charles Darwin on the second survey voyage of HMS Beagle. The Beagle and its crew travelled up this river in April 1834. This diagram is from page 114 of Darwin's 'Geological Observations on South America' (1846).
