Description
Excavations at Dinosaur Cove. Palaeontologists examining material removed from Dinosaur Cove in southern Australia. Dinosaur Cove is the first area to be mined specifically for fossils, rather than as an adjunct to other mining activities. The region is rich in fossils, laid during the mid- Cretaceous Period some 100My to 120My BP (million years before present). The fossils are significant, as this part of modern Australia would have been between 70 and 85 degrees south latitude at that time. This means that some amount of permanent night would have been experienced during the winter.
