Artist's Description
Orion constellation. Artwork of a human warrior overlaid on the constellation of Orion the Hunter. A line of three bright stars marks the position of Orion's belt. Other stars mark his shield and his sword, as well as his shoulders, head, knees and feet. The constellation of Orion is visible from both the northern and southern hemispheres, as the celestial equator passes through Orion's belt. According to Ancient Greek mythology, Orion was the son of Poseidon and the greatest hunter the world had ever known. After being slain by a scorpion, the legendary warrior was placed in the heavens. Many cultures worldwide have identified this grouping of stars with a warrior figure.
