Artist's Description
Ocean currents in the Indian Ocean. Satellite-based graphic showing ocean currents (swirling coloured lines) around the coast of Africa. The colours indicate ocean temperatures, ranging from the warm tropics (red) to cooler water (green) in more temperate latitudes. The warm Agulhas Current (off eastern Africa) forms rings as it retroflects off cooler water in the Agulhas Basin off the southern tip of Africa. Warm currents of the South equatorial current are across centre. Cooler waters form the West Australian Current at bottom right.
