Description
Nylon stockings exhibition. DuPont saleswoman (right) demonstrating the advantages of nylon stockings at an exhibition in 1939. Nylon was a new material discovered by the DuPont Company in 1935 and used from 1939 in products such as stockings. Nylon stockings were immensely popular, but had to be discontinued due to nylon being reserved solely for wartime applications. This is the DuPont exhibit at the Golden Gate Exposition, San Francisco, USA, in the spring of 1939. This was the first display of nylon stockings, with the fabric also exhibited at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
