Artist's Description

Nuclear fusion, conceptual computer illustration. Nuclear fusion is the joining (fusing) of two or more atomic nuclei to form a new nucleus. Here, two hydrogen isotopes, deuterium and tritium, are fusing to create helium-4. The process releases large amounts of energy and is the driving force of the energy generated by main-sequence stars like the Sun. It is hoped that fusion will be a clean, renewable energy source for the future.
