Description
Man wearing General Purpose night vision goggles manufactured by Pilkington PE Ltd. The image is obtained by the use of a second generation image intensifier which typically has a light amplification capability of 50, 000 x to 250,000 x the original light intensity of a scene. These instruments use the visible spectrum, & a small part of the near infra-red for detection. The incoming photons strike a photo cathode which produces an electron emission. The electrons are then amplified using a micro-channel plate, then focused onto a luminescent screen via an electron lens. This screen reconverts the electron signal into light which is bright enough to observe.
