Nanowire medical sensor research. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires grown for potential biosensing applications. The nanowires form aligned arrays with applications in biosensing, manipulation of cells, and converting mechanical energy into electricity for powering nanodevices. This work was carried out by researchers at the Emory/Georgia Tech Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence, USA. Image produced in 2008.
