Description
Mute swans (Cygnus olor) swimming on a lake. These swans are found on lakes and rivers throughout North Eurasia and have been introduced to parts of north-eastern America. Mute swans are large birds, often measuring over 1.5 metres long, with a wing span of up to 2.5 metres. They use their long necks to feed underwater on plants, insects and frogs. Their name is slightly misleading as mute swans often make hissings or grunting noises. Photographed during August in Hertfordshire, England, UK.
