MODEL RELEASED. MRI scanner. Patient preparing for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. The patient is lying on a table that will be slid into the bore (centre) of the machine. MRI is a diagnostic technique used to produce images of cross-sections of parts of the body. It uses a strong magnetic field to produce radio emissions from hydrogen atoms in the body. MRI is particularly useful for looking at soft tissue. Photographed at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, UK.
