Artist's Description

Mount Etna erupting, historical artwork. Engraving of the volcano Mount Etna erupting in 1637. Mount Etna occupies the eastern part of the Italian island of Sicily. It is the largest volcano in Europe, standing 3323 metres above sea level, and is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. This artwork is from Mundus Subterraneus (Subterranean World), written by Athanasius Kircher (1602-1680) in 1678.
