Description
Morgan and Emerson. US geneticists Thomas Hunt Morgan (left, 1866-1945) and Rollins Adams Emerson (right, 1873-1947). Morgan's work with Drosophila fruit flies established chromosome theory. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (1933) and the Copley Medal (1939). Emerson was one of several geneticists who independently rediscovered the laws of inheritance uncovered by Gregor Mendel in the 1850s and 1860s. Emerson carried out his work in the early 1900s at the University of Nebraska. Emerson then worked on maize genetics at Harvard University and Cornell University. Photographed in around 1925.
