Artist's Description
Moon rock sample. Museum specimen of anorthosite breccia, or moon rock, collected on the Apollo 16 mission in April 1972, and mounted in an acrylic block for protection and display. The Apollo moon landings from 1969 to 1972 returned 2415 samples and over 380 kilograms of moon rock. Most of this is kept in Houston in the USA, but several hundred samples were presented to other governments and research institutions around the world. This sample is held at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
