Description
View of a model showing the seven cervical vertebrae which make up the neck region of the human spine. The twin rows of spinal nerves (each one carrying sensory and motor nerve fibres) are visible here as they emerge from either side of the spine from between gaps in adjacent vertebrae. Also visible, running up on both sides, along the length of the spine are the vertebral arteries. Between each pair of vertebrae lies a disc-shaped pad of tough fibrous cartilage with a jelly-like core, called an intervertebral disc. These discs cushion the vertebrae during movements such as running or jumping.
