Artist's Description
Mercury, MESSENGER global mosaic. Cylindrical projection of the surface of Mercury, displayed using images from three narrow-band filters. This filtering produces colours that accentuate the surface features beyond those normally visible to humans. This mosaic consists of data acquired by the Mercury Dual Imaging System (MDIS) instrument on the MESSENGER (Mercury Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry and Ranging) spacecraft. MESSENGER orbited Mercury from March 2011 to April 2015. This image was released in 2016.
