Description
Mayan end-of-the-world 2012 prediction. Asteroid about to impact the Earth near a Mayan pyramid. Such an impact would cause mass extinctions and heavy loss of life. The Maya were an ancient Mesoamerican civilization that inhabited southern Mexico and nearby areas for thousands of years from the second millennium BC to the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. The Maya had advanced astronomical knowledge and could predict solar and planetary events. Some have interpreted the cycles of their Long Count calendar as foretelling the end of the world in 2012. This is the El Castillo pyramid, Chichen Itza, Mexico.
