Description
Martian surface. Depressions on the surface of Mars caused by the loss of water or carbon dioxide ice. When the temperature is warm enough, solid ice turns to liquid and carbon dioxide sublimates into gas leaving behind a cavity on the ground. The resulting formations can take the shape of depressions, cracks and troughs. Image obtained by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on 2nd June 2013.
