Artist's Description
Marc Seguin (1786-1875). 1867 illustration of the French engineer Marc Seguin. Seguin designed and made two steam locomotives for the Saint-Etienne-Lyon railway. He improved locomotive efficiency by using a multiple fire-tube boiler (patented in 1827) rather than the water-tube boiler used previously. He also managed a range of other businesses. Seguin became a member of the Academie des Sciences in 1845 and received the Legion d'honneur in 1836.
