Map of the world, 1702. The main maps show the Earth's Western and Eastern hemispheres, with trade winds, monsoons, and compass variations. There are 22 insets. The corner insets show the northern and southern hemispheres, tilted to the plane of the ecliptic at right. The Earth's hemispheres on the plane of the horizon are below the main maps at bottom. At upper and lower centre are the northern and southern celestial hemispheres. At upper right is a world map projected using equidistant meridians and parallels. The smaller insets show (clockwise from upper right): the Moon, the cosmology of Tycho, a celestial sphere representation called sphaera recta, Mercury, phases of the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus, the phases of the Earth, the cosmology of Copernicus, the cosmology of Ptolemy, and the Sun. The planets are by Cassini, the Sun by Kircher.
