Artist's Description

MALT lymphoma. Endoscopic view of a malignant (cancerous) MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma in the stomach. This is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. MALT lymphoma is most often caused by infection with the bacteria Helicobacter pylori. In the early stages, treatment of the H. pylori infection will cure the cancer. In more advanced cases, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and sometimes surgery, are combined with the H. pylori treatment.
