Description
Mallard duckling (Anas platyrhynchos). Mallard ducks breed throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Females lay 8-13 eggs, which are incubated for up to 28 days. The ducklings remain with the female for protection for around 50-60 days after hatching. They can swim and feed on insects as soon as they reach water after hatching. Photographed in Lancashire, UK.
