Male atlas moth (Atlas attacus). This moth is found in the tropical forests of southern Asia and the Indonesian islands. The male's large feathery antennae are used to detect female pheromones (airborne sex hormones). Like other moths of its class (Saturniidae) it does not have functioning mouth parts and so does not eat for its two week adult life.
