Description
Macrophage white blood cell. Light micrograph of a type of white blood cell (leucocyte) called a macrophage. The cross-section is triangular here, and its nucleus (centre) is seen. Here, it is seen performing its function of defending the body by engulfing foreign organisms (different colours) in the process known as phagocytosis. This is part of the body's immune response.
