Lung cancer. Light micrograph of a lung cancer biopsy. Fibrous tissue has been infiltrated by atypical undifferentiated cells (bottom) with different sized nuclei (dark purple). Also seen several blood vessels (one at bottom right) containing red blood cells (red). Lung cancers are usually caused by tobacco smoking, and are fatal unless caught early. Magnification: x310 when printed at 10 centimetres tall. Haematoxylin and eosin stain.
