Lung alveoli. Fluorescence deconvolution micrograph of a section through lung tissue, showing the alveoli, the tiny air sacs of the lungs where gases are exchanged between the air and the blood in the blood vessels. Cellular proteins are highlighted with fluorescent markers: capillaries (red), f-actin (green), and cell nuclei (blue). Type I and type II pneumocytes are present in the alveolar septum, the tissue separating the alveoli.
