Ludwig Wittmack (1839-1929), German botanist, whose full name was Marx Carl Ludwig Wittmack. Published in Berlin between 1870 and 1890. The photograph is from a collection about judges and commissioners who served at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago, USA. This was a celebration of American culture and society, commemorating Columbus' voyages to the Americas 400 years earlier.
