Description
Lockheed U-2 spy aircraft. US Air Force pilot guiding a U-2 'Dragon Lady' spy aircraft across an airfield in south-western Asia. This mission is supporting military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan (Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom). This aircraft, developed by the Lockheed Corporation, made its maiden flight in August 1955. Since then, it has been used by the CIA and the US Air Force for high-altitude reconnaissance missions (altitudes of 21 kilometres). Over 80 U-2 aircraft have been built over more than 50 years. It has a single pilot, and is 19.2 metres long, with a wingspan of 31.4 metres. Photographed on 24 April 2010.
