Description
Light micrograph of a thin section of tantalum (symbol Ta). Tantalum is a metallic element with atomic number 73 and atomic weight 180.95. It is bluish-white in appearance, and resembles platinum when polished. It has a wide variety of uses, including filament lamps, alloys, corrosion- resistant laboratory apparatus, in electronics and as a catalyst in the manufacture of synthetic rubber. Tantalum was discovered by Ekeberg in 1802. Magnification: x125 at 6x4.5cm size.
