Description
Light micrograph of normal human spinal cord. The spinal cord, part of the central nervous system, comprises grey matter (right) and white matter (left). Grey matter is made up of huge numbers of nerve cells (dark brown particles) together with their processes (brown lines in groups), supported by a system of neuroglial cells (white, with dark nuclei). White matter contains many neuroglial cells, together with nerve cell processes (brown lines, radially arranged). The grey matter in the spinal cord lies to its centre; the white matter towards the periphery. Magnification: x25 at 35mm size.
