Lantern fly (Fulgora laternaria). This planthopper (infraorder Fulgoromorpha) is also known as the peanut bug, peanut-headed lanternfly and alligator bug. It has a head that resembles that of a reptile, which acts as a deterrent to predators, along with fake eyes on its wings. This insect lives mainly in the rain forests of Central and South America. Specimen obtained in Petit-Saut, French Guiana. For the insect with its wings open, see image Z285/286.
