Landsat image of Los Angeles in south-west California. The city appears blue-grey in colour, the regular grid pattern of the road network being clearly visible. Areas of vegetation appear in red, while bodies of water, such as the Pacific Ocean at bottom, are coloured black. The smooth coastline of San Pedro Bay, bottom right, is broken up at left by the regular outline of the docks at Los Angeles harbour. The light-coloured line which appears to bisect the city is the Los Angeles River. The rugged terrain just above the city is the San Gabriel mountain range.
