Description
Lactobacillus crispatus bacteria, illustration. These rod-shaped (bacillus) Gram-positive bacteria are found as part of the normal flora in the vaginal and gastrointestinal tracts. Loss of L. crispatus from the vaginal tract can lead to bacterial vaginosis, an imbalance of the vaginal microflora that causes an abnormal unpleasant smelling vaginal discharge.
