Description
Jurassic heteromorph ammonites, artwork. At the top left are two pterosaurs (Dimorphodon). The dinosaur at top right is a Megalosaurus. The trees are monkey puzzle (Araucaria). Underwater, the ammonites at the left and centre of the image are Stephanoceras, with the male smaller than the female. The large ammonite behind the seaweed towards the right is Lytoceras. The group of silvery ammonites on the left are Hyperlioceras.The large ammonite on the sea floor is a Spiroceras annunatum and the loosely-coiled ammonites are Spiroceras orbygni, both are heteromorphs. Nautilus rise from the deep in the background to feed on dead lobsters, etc. On the right is a school of belemnites. An ichthyosaur lurks in the distance. The floating log on the right is covered with crinoids (Pentacrinites). On the left a log has become waterlogged and sunk, with dying crinoids. On the seafloor are lobsters, starfish, corals, sponges, algae mats and sea urchins.
