Invasion of Normandy, 1944. Scene on Omaha Beach, showing the remains of demolished anti-landing devices, with invasion shipping in the distance. This photograph was taken on 6 June or shortly thereafter. The D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 were the largest seaborne invasion in history. They successfully liberated the Normandy coast of Nazi-occupied France, contributing to the Allied victory in World War II.
