Description
Influenza virus particle. Computer artwork of an influenza (flu) virus particle split open to reveal the core of RNA (ribonucleic acid) genetic material. This is surrounded by a nucleocapsid (blue spheres) and a lipid envelope (yellow). In the envelope are two types of protein spike, haemagglutinin (H, blue) and neuraminidase (N, green), which determine the strain of virus. These are used for recognising and binding to the host cell.
