Description
Indus River bend, GeoEye-1 satellite image. This is a marshy and swampy area of land, with the river (upper left) meandering as it cuts through the surrounding alluvial plain. Tropical vegetation, erosion channels, and an eyot (lower right) are also seen. Originating in Tibet, China, and flowing briefly through India, the majority of the Indus flows through Pakistan from north to south and is that country's longest river. Image data obtained on 21 October 2009. The US-operated GeoEye-1 satellite was launched in September 2008, and orbits at a height of 680 kilometres. It is the world's highest resolution commercial Earth-imaging satellite.
