Hydroelectric dam (centre) and reservoir (upper centre), aerial photograph. This is the Barrage de Petit-Saut, a dam and artificial lake in Petit-Saut, French Guiana. It provides hydroelectricity to local regions and is used to power the Ariane rocket launches at the nearby Guiana Space Centre (Centre Spatial Guyanais, CSG) in Kourou. The dam's gates are closed here, but when open they allow a controlled amount of water through, which rotates electricity turbines.
